Hungry Ghost Festival @ Puchong

On Friday night, we were in Puchong for a family dinner. The place is located nearby the Tesco Puchong. We came across this huge Hungry Ghost Festival ceremony. It was quite a scene, a stage and lots of "offerings" were there.

Since I brought my camera, I took a few pictures. I know my mom would scold me for this. We are quite forbidden to do so as it's not nice to take such pictures.

h1

Offerings for burning...

h2

The ritual starts...

h3

The concert for the "invited", that's why the front row seats were not taken.

Video I took...

h4

Lastly, the burning of the offerings.

Even though I heard much about it, but I haven't really been to many of them. It's nice to see such custom and ritual still around. It was an eye opener.

The Wedding Extravaganza 2009 @ Rennaissance Hotel, KL

A few Sundays ago, we were invited for a Bridal Fair in Rennaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. We were joined by our usual "suspects" aka our lovely BFF, Missmynx and AgentK.

cake

We went to Carven Ong's collections and found Big Boys Oven's cake by chance.

Then, we bumped to Carven Ong.

Rachel first impression to Carven was..."Wah, u so handsome!!!"
Carven laughed it off and said.. "I'm old already, no more handsome".

Know you understand how Rachel flirts in front of me, sigh...

We had a good conversation with Carven, as Rachel kept on asking for discounts.

Thanks to Star Red Fm, we got our free tickets for the catwalk. Yeah, catwalk, bridal version...

First show was from Allan Couture, picture as follows:

Asian Food Channel and Hong Kong Tourism Board with Maria Cordero Food Demo @ Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur

Yesterday, I was invited to the Maria Cordero Food Demo session by Asian Food Channel at Berjaya Times Square. Thank you Asian Food Channel, George Alice Communications and Hong Kong Tourism Board for the invitation.

The event was jointly sponsored by Hong Kong Tourism Board in conjunction with the upcoming Hong Kong Food and Wine Year. The event was packed! I was there with fellow bloggers like Jason Mumbles, Big Boys Oven, Fat Boy Bakes, Masak-masak and Rebecca.

hk

Hong Kong has long been famous for its culinary strength and recently become the second Asian city to be awarded its very own Michelin Guide. Leveraging on the Hong Kong SAR Government’s exemption of wine duty, which enables visitors to enjoy a wide selection of wine at highly attractive prices, the HKTB launched a brand new marketing platform “Hong Kong Food and Wine Year” to show the world the diverse culinary experience of Hong Kong, reinforcing the city’s image as one of the world’s culinary capitals. Throughout the Hong Kong Food and Wine Year, the HKTB will inject elements of food and wine into its promotion.

From 30 October to 1 November 2009 at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade where visitors can indulge themselves in the perfect pairing of wine and food, attend wine appreciation classes conducted by professionals sommeliers, sample many of the local food delicacies, as well as enchanting music, against the beautiful backdrop of Victoria Harbour. To celebrate this Festival and actively engage viewers, HKTB and AFC will be offering two lucky viewers the chance to win an exclusive trip to Hong Kong to experience the festival first hand.

afc

AFC has had tremendous success over the past few years, building a strong Channel that is now represented in seven markets throughout Asia. As well as showcasing a variety of programmes from top celebrity chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Marco Pierre White, Martin Yan, Daniel Boulud and more, the Channel has recently launched their original production documentaries. AFC has grown into a powerful brand, one that fully understands and nurtures food talent and one that is seen by many blue chip companies as a valued partnership opportunity.

Maria Cordero or also known as "Fat Mama Maria" talked about her family and her life before she demo her recipes.

maria2

She lived her life healthier due to proper eating. She still eats 3-4 meals a day.

mari3

She managed her time perfectly between work and family. She enjoys cooking for her grandchildren that visit her weekly.

maria4

Maria gave the audience a taste of her special made bitter gourd that she prepared in her hotel room yesterday. Yes, she cooked it in her hotel room! It was amazingly tasty! The crowd loved it too!

If you noticed properly, Maria has slimmed down tremendously. In fact, she lost around 78 pounds due to intakig healthy foods. She explained that she would add vegetables and fruits to her meals smartly. For example, she would fried chicken using chicken skins and added sliced apples and pears with it. The taste is still similar but healthier.

She did also offered tips to maintain a good family relationship. She was a great entertainer. She sang for the audience as she cooked and she also cracked some jokes from time to time.

Her recipes were unique and healthy. I listed them at the bottom.

maria5

After the cooking demo, her fans (from the crowd) rushed to her to take pictures and to take her signatures. I'm one of them. I loved her movies especially Mr. Coconut with Michael Hui!

maria6

She wasted no time and entertained the crowd with a few songs.

Checked out this song and her dance moves! (More movies comings!)

Well, its me and Maria!

As famous as she is, she is a very humble person. I watched her quite a number of her movies. The recent movie was the Andy Lau and Shu Qi movie. She acted as Shu Qi's mum.

Maria Cordero's Recipe

Rice Cooker Chicken

Ingredients:
1 Spring Chicken
Generous amounts of green onions, ginger and shallots
A dash of 5 spices
A dash of Pepper and salt
A bit of Sesame Oil
Shaoxing cooking wine

Method:
Mince some ginger finely. Mix the 5 spices, pepper, minced ginger and salt together.
Apply this mixture as a dry rub on the chicken thoroughly. Then set it aside for 30 minutes.
Chop some green onions and ginger into rough strips. Then stuff them into the belly of the chicken.
Chop some green onions, ginger and dried shallots into coarse chunks and add them to the bottom of your rice cooker. Then place the chicken into the cooker.
Put the lid on and cook the chicken for 20 minutes.
Open the lid and add some Shaoxing cooking wine. Put the lid back on and start the cooker again.
Turn the cooker off when the aroma of the wine starts to emanate from the cooker, leave the lid on for a few more minutes.
Then soak the chicken in ice water for a while.
Remove the chicken from the water, sprinkle some sesame oil on it, and slice the chicken before serving.

Mushroom Porcini Oat
Ingredients:
12 Chinese mushrooms
1 packet of Porcini mushrooms
3 cups of oats
1 cups of rice
A bit of Sesame Oil
Generous amount of coriander and green onion

Method:
Soak the Chinese and porcini mushrooms. Then slice them thinly.
Marinate the sliced mushrooms with sesame oil, light soya sauce and dark soya sauce.
Cook the oats and rice together in a pot. When the contents start to thicken and the liquid starts to reduce, layer the mushrooms
on top of the rice.
Put the lid back on and continue cooking.
Once the oat rice is cooked, remove from heat and leave the lid on for few minutes before serving.

Mushroom Cappuccino

Ingredients:
Mixed mushrooms of your choice
Butter
Olive oil
Black pepper
Salt
Whipping Cream

Method:
You need not wash the mushrooms. Just wipe them using a clean towel. Chop them finely and set them aside.
Pre-heat your wok. Add a bit of olive oil and butter and sauté the mushrooms. Then put the lid on briefly.
Remove the lid, add pepper and salt, then stir and sauté.
When the mushrooms are done, transfer all the contents of the wok into a food processor.
Blend this until you get a thick and sticky mixture.
After that, pour this mixture back into the warm wok.
Add the whipping cream and mix well.
The dish is now ready to be served.

My Younger Brother, Ng Chun Seong Featured in Klue Magazine's 20 Under 40 (September '09)

My Younger Brother, Ng Chun Seong Featured in Klue Magazine's 20 Under 40 (September '09). Many might be asking who is he? Where he comes from? Knowing the rest of the entries are heavy weights such as KRU, Amir Muhammad, Chris Chong, Bunkface and personal friend Joon Han and Adly, my younger brother worked hard for his dreams.

k-1

8 years ago, my younger brother shocked the family saying he wanted to learn graphic design. During our childhood years, he showed no natural talent in drawing or painting but he told us that he will work hard to learn it. So then he went to One Academy and graduated there. From zero to hero, he mastered his skills in design and his works were getting better and better. From there, he worked in a few months in a local 3D animation company before he decided to pursue his Master of Art in Animation at Savannah Art of College.

He moved to Los Angeles after his graduation to pursue his dreams as a 3D modeler. Getting a job was never been easier. There were a few 3D animation departments closed down at that time. For almost 4-6 months, he was jobless. He stayed at home improving his portfolio and he won a few awards for his work.

http://chunseong.com/featurefilm_YueLao.html
http://chunseong.com/featurefilm_Kate.html

His patience awarded by a call from Hydraulx. They asked him to work as a 3D modeler for the graveyard shifts. He happily accepted the job. As it was so sudden, he had to drive more than an hour to go to work as he had no time to move. He got to know that more than 1000 applicants applied for his post. He considered himself lucky to land his job. We at home were very happy as his patience paid off.

k-2

He went on and involved in featured films such as AVPR, the Incredible Hulk and many more. My parents would go to the cinema and watched all his movies. We felt so proud to see his name credited. We also felt proud to tell our friends that my younger brother did part of the movie. His works not just limited to us, but to the rest of the world.

If you asked me if he deserved to be shortlisted, I would say he DAMN deserved it! -www.chunseong.com-

We Are Spotted In Red Tomato, Malaysia's Free Chinese Newspaper

Yeah, we are spotted at the latest edition of Red Tomato, Malaysia's first free Chinese newspaper. It was our best wishes for the country for this year's Merdeka day (Independence Day).

Redtomato2

Well, I didn't say something like ...."I believe in World Peace..." Nope, that's not me!

I quoted something like.... "I would hope 1Malaysia will be a reality one day rather than just singing the 1Malaysia song. I hope for a better future in Malaysia with race harmony. I would also like to introduce Malaysia through my lenses and my blog."

Rachel quoted something different though - "I hope for political stability as lately it has given our country a bad image. Furthermore, I also hope for a quicker economy recovery and higher standard of quality of living. Malaysians are migrating to other country due to high crime rates and the safety issues lately. I hope the government will make this country a safer place to stay.
Thus, I will also try to promote the our country's multi-racial culture to the world through my blog."

Rachel made a longer comment, didn't know she wanted so many things.

We wished the country could perform much better in economy, political stability and safety issues.

Happy Merdeka Malaysia!

Home Sweet Home, We Are Back In Kuala Lumpur

Plane didn't get delay. Everything was smooth except the "smart" Air Asia counter fella who got us different seats when we checked in at Kuching airport. Well, we were "smarter" when we realized the mistake minutes before boarding.

I was hoping to hot chick to sit beside me since Rachel was sitting behind me. It didn't happen! I got some weird looking guy instead. Rachel got one irritating "uncle" who sat a row behind her who did all sorts of funny things behind; sneeze, blurp and probably fart.

Luckily, I managed to capture a few lovely Klang Valley night shots with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15.

kl1

Wide Shot, KLCC at far top middle.

No matter how, we finally reached home. Home sweet home, we are back in Kuala Lumpur!

Live Blogging: From Kuching

Tonight will be our last night in Kuching. Didn't go much visiting except trying out a few restaurants here and there. Food here are very interesting. From Ko Lo Noodle to Laksa Style crabs as well as "umai ikan" to "tuak" mojito. Sadly, we have yet to visit the major tourist spots here. Hopefully, tomorrow we got time for some.

At the same time, Rachel is having a good sleep while I'm still awake to do blogging. We had a full day trip around Kuching looking for foods and we went to Damai beach as well today.

Pictures to come very soon. Thanks for reading while we were here.

Ya, one more thing. Happy Merdeka!! Kuching has been very nice to us except the hazy weather.

I won a Digital Camera @ Kalau Keju, Mesti Kraft Media Launch

I was invited to Kalau Keju, Mest Kraft Media Launch on the 11th of August at Uptown Car Park. Like usual, I was there early and walking around taking pictures.

k0

The location...

gm

Well, actually its the official launch of "Roti Kraft" and "Burger Kraft". According to the Diether Shulz, General Manager of Kraft Malaysia, we Malaysians are incredibly creative with our foods, so "Roti Kraft" and "Burger Kraft" are great examples of that creativity. Roti Kraft is the combination of Kraft cheese with the usual roti canai while Burger Kraft is the additional of Kraft cheese with the usual Ramli burger.

k1

The preparation of Burger Kraft. This guy owned a burger stall in Cheras, I promised him that I would try his burger one day.

Personally, I prefer Burger Kraft than Roti Kraft. Yet, such great innitiave by Kraft Malaysia means we could enjoy quality cheese from mamak and burger stalls. Kraft remained one of my family's top choices in terms of cheese.

sketch

We were also entertained with a sketch that was a combination of drama and musical. It was really good, never had something like this before. Good One!

k2

Later on, they had some games for the media. To my surprise, I was the first to be called out. Playing against another 2 contestants, we were supposed to stack the burger with Kraft Cheese and try to finish it within 2 minutes.

Somehow, I managed to win it! I could really believe it! Even though it's just a digital camera, I was over the moon for it.

k3

A Kraft's representative presenting the camera to me...

k4

A group picture with Sidney of BigBoysOven.com, Pinkporkchop and me...

k5

I gave the camera to my wife Rachel. She opened it and she loved it. It's a Samsung L100 digital camera. Coincidentally, its pink! Rachel is using it now for her own food hunts.

Thanks Kraft Malaysia and Kelly for the invitation. Really appreciate it!
