Famous Fried Oyster Omelette @ Jalan Bunga Raya, Melaka (Malacca)

There's one famous fried oyster omelette in Melaka that well known with the locals for generations. Its a small stall that's only operates at night at Medan Makanan Bunga Raya at Jalan Bunga Raya. The stall normally operates from 8pm until midnight and expect a long queue to order.

My father's hometown is Melaka. He told me that, the stall was already popular when he was a kid. The stall has been operating at least 40-50 years. My grandma told me they used to cook with duck eggs which tasted much better. Now, they only use normal chicken eggs. After generations passed, the small little stall is there.

This picture was taken last year during my last trip to Melaka. I had been searching this few pictures for weeks and glad I found it.



That's the stall with the huge pan. They can cook up at least 5-6 plates at once!

Sadly, I didn't manage to have the fried oyster that day. I needed to wait for an hour if I wanted to have the fried oyster. I couldn't wait as it was already 11pm.

The fried oyster omelette is popular because its cooked to perfection. Fried oyster omelette there were usually starchy (not crispy) and the oysters were small. Its different than the fried oyster omelette from KL (Kuala Lumpur).

My father would always take away a few plates back to KL if he would be in Melaka. A plate used to cost around RM 8 each plate but I wouldn't know how much it costs now.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, The Oldest Chinese Temple In Malaysia

Many might not heard about this temple, some might not know the existence of it. Even I've been there for so many times didn't know the rich history of this temple.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple or some might referred it to Quan Yin Temple is actually one of the oldest Chinese Temple in Malaysia.

Cheng Hoon Teng was founded in the 1600s by the Chinese Kapitan Tay Kie Ki alias Tay Hong Yong. The temple it self is around 400 years old! Even today it looked as if it is brand new. The reason being is the restoration. In fact, they did it so well until it was underscored by an UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration.



I was there at the temple on CNY's eve. A tradition that has been carried on for years. I had been missing for a few years so I intended to go back and have a look. It was very early in the morning around 7 am. The sky was still darkish blue, it was already crowded by worshipers.



The architeture and the design of the temple lasted for 400 years and yet it looked as if its new.






The small details on roof were still there. I wished I brought my DSLR!



Looked at the doors and the color of the temple. Fine piece of art work.

MOF no Japanese Sweets & Coffee @ Pavilion

I had passed by this place so many times and I kept promised myself to go there one day. Well, when a sign reads " Japanese Sweets & Coffee", its quite obvious this is a desert cafe. After that lovely porridge I had in Crystal Jade, we went there to check out this place...

Macha Zen...Hokkaido red beans (I assume the beans from Hokkaido ok) with Green Tea Japanese Low Fat Gelato Ice Cream and Japanese Dumpling...

The red beans are too sweet to me, ice cream and dumpling is okay to me...

Shiratama Kurian, kantan jelly, fruits and ice cream....

Okay not too bad... healthy I assume...

Macha Imo, not macha EMO... green tea sauce, ice cream, red bean and Japanese sweet potato...

This is my favourite! A must try! The sweet potato is awe!

I guess now many would understand why I gain weight lately. I had been massacaring food like no tomorrow. The past few weeks have been really mad to me, almost everyday eat here and there. There are still quite a number of places that I just to post. Check out later for more food stuffs...

Yam Puff @ Granpa's Curry Puff, Malacca

In a coffee shop by the name of Yung Lai Siang @ Jalan Bunga Raya Pantai, there's a small stall selling puffs...

The name is Grandpa's Curry and Chicken puff...

Like many other great foods, you can see they got newspaper write ups also... so this place must be not "bad" or "beh pai"....

I tried sardine puff before but yam puff was my first time. In fact, we only manage to buy 2 as the rest was sold out. Knowing it must be good, we shared the yam puff when we were in the car. It was pretty good.

The curry and chicken puff also not bad either. The yam puff is something that I will buy again next time! Its something different that must try!

"Vintage" Sweet Potato Porridge @ Chop Sam Guan, Malacca

My dad is from Malacca and I used to spend my time in Malacca when I was young. I still remember there were lots of good foods in Malacca and being that reason, I am what I am now (my size).

The place is at Jalan Jawa off Jalan Bunga Raya. Its a one way street from the main Jalan Bunga Raya.
The alley should looks like this... (I am standing in front of the shop facing the alley from Jalan Bunga Raya).

The place is called Chop Sam Guan... given the look of it, it should be there at least 30-40 years...

We ordered almost everything.... from Chilli fish, Soy sauce chicken and Yam with meat....

If noticed, the porridge is cooked with sweet potato... its my first time eating such porridge and its naturally sweet...

Why do I name this place "vintage" porridge? There's a big reason. Its located at a very old alley. The row of shops in this alley are "old school" shops.

Behind this shop is the beautiful Melaka River.

Back to the food.... The feast cost us less than RM 30. Yes, less than RM 30! The food were good and we had a good chat with the people there, great service! I will go back again if I'm in Malacca.

Satay Celup @ Ban Lee Siang, Malacca

Satay Celup is very popular in Malacca. I'm a big fan of it since I'm a kid. Since my dad is from there, I used to go back there during holidays and I wasted no time to get my satay celup.

Satay Celup means "Dipped Satay" mainly because of its satay sauce.

Its really simple. You just eat what you like to eat, then they will calculate the total.

The food varies from pork balls, sausages to eggs...

Vege like kangkung and other type of deep fried foods available as well...

The price per stick the last time I went is still under RM 1. I'm not sure how much is it right now though. Its an enjoyable fun get together to do, I mean to eat place. Located right in the middle of the town, its a very popular tourist spot. It has been around for more than 15 years at least.

Malacca's Chicken Rice Balls @ Chung Wah Coffee Shop

The infamous Malacca's chicken rice balls!

My dad comes from Malacca so I have a bit of history going on with Malacca. Well, obviously I like the foods there. If you go to Malacca and you missed chicken rice balls, you never been to Malacca. Theres a few nowadays in Malacca but one of the famous spot will be Chung Wah Coffee Shop, just around the corner of the Stadhuys building. Its always packed during weekends due to tourists mainly from other states and Singapore. The nice part of chicken rice balls is its easy to eat. I mean like you can eat it just like it with chicken of course. On top of that, they have other side dishes available as well. Its a nice place to go to eat when you are in Malacca, something different. Price is reasonable, not too much even though there's always tourists. Anyways, its good to ask before you order, right?
