Dim Sum @ Restoran Gu Yue Tien, Chulan Square

My parents brought us for dim sum a few weeks ago. It has been a while since we had dim sum with my parents. He told us about he loved the food at this restaurant, Restoran Gu Yue Tien. It's located at Chulan Square, exactly opposite of the Pavilion shopping mall.

The restaurant opened late, around 11 am on a lovely Sunday morning. We were the first customers of the day.



Place was Chinese oriented decorated. They won a few awards and they had pictures of celebrities such as Jackie Chan and Datuk Michelle Yeoh.



We waited no more and started with prawn dumplings. The filling was fresh and the skin was thin, it was good.



Vegetable dumpling was decent also.

Lor mai kai was good. Nicely done.



Fish ball was ordinary though.



Egg tarts were decent. Tasted better.



Chee cheong fun was decent as well.



Char siew pau was decent. Would prefer the skin to be softer and thinner, personal preferences.



Lastly, they prepared a special dish which was the fried bacon salad. Not much of awe factor. But, with bacon it always good!

In general, I would say the dim sum was decent. Pricing was reasonable as we went there during promotion. If not, it will be at a higher end side. Place was cozy and well air conditioned. Service was very good, people there were very friendly.

Dim Sum @ Restoran Mexim Cheras

Everyone knows the Taman Connaught stretch in Cheras is famous for their dim sum but I found another place. It's located in Taman Yulek (same row with the post office). It's not a new place and it's quite popular also. Place is called Restoran Mexim Cheras, it has been there for quite some time.



Packed as usual, a casual and usual spot for the residents around. The last time I was there was years back.

In general, the dim sum was fresh and decent. This explains the usual crowd in the restaurant. Place is not air conditioned and the service was okay. Parking might be a slight issue here but sometimes you might get lucky. Pricing is quite reasonable, ranging from RM 2.00.

Well, if you are around Taman Yulek, Cheras and you got the craving for dim sum, this could be the place. Reasonably good.

Packed @ Restoran Foh San, Ipoh

Restoran Foh San is a very popular dim sum restaurant in Ipoh. Trust me the initial plan was to go there at 6.30 am. However, me and Rachel overslept and Steph called me at 6 am and we were like shit! We were still sleeping! It never intentional to be late, trust me on that!


We reached Ipoh around 9 am and we started to look for the restaurant without any maps or address. By 9.30 am we reached the restaurant by asking around and a friendly motorist who guided us there.

When we reached there we got a rude shock!



It was packed! Sandwiched until outside!



Basically there's someone standing at every table waiting for their turn. Estimated time to get a seat, say at least 1 1/2 hour?

We gave up! No Foh San dim sum this time around. But one thing for sure, I'll be BACK!

Maybe better luck next time....

Dim Sum @ Restaurant Kam Him, Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park, KL (Feb 09)

Heard about this place a few times before eventually I went there with my family a few months ago. To be exact, it was in February.

The place is quite easy to find. From Sungei Besi, you will reach the traffic light. Go straight and you will pass by the shop lots on both left and right side. Go straight 500m, there's a row of shoplots on the left. Kam Hin is one of them.

The place itself was quite big. There's a few signboards in front of the shop.

I had to wake up early for the dim sum that day. We reached the place around 8 am. Place starting to getting packed.



I must say the variety of the dim sum was quite different than the usual dim sum shops. They had different choices of dim sum that I never had before. The dim sum itself was very fresh and it was tasty as well.

I wished I stated the names of the dim sum as its kinda hard for me to explain which is which.



The fried stuffs here were pretty good as well. I fell in love with a few of them there.

I always loved the carrot cake (non stir fried version). Its well done here, crispy on the outside skin layer and tenderly delicious on the inside.



Chee Cheong Fun and the Lo Mai Kai (glutinous rice with chicken) was not bad as well. The sushi roll type dim sum was good. I liked seaweed.

In general, the dim sum at Kam Hin was good. Plates go around RM 3 to RM 4 per plate depending on plate sizes. It was quite reasonable to me given the food quality served. Service was good at that time. The different choices of dim sum and the uniqueness of a few selected dim sum made it a worthwhile place to visit.

It deserved to be popular.

Dim Sum @ Kedai Kopi Dan Makan Seong Kee, Taman Connaught, Cheras

Located at the main road of Taman Connaught, before reaching Giant (same row with KFC).This place is no stranger for Cheras folks. Whatever reason it could be, this place is always packed in the morning.

I went there months ago with my cousins and my granny.

That day, the place was not so packed, as we went there early.

As usual, I ordered heaps of dim sum for sharing.



I must admit this time around was better than my previous visit.



Yet, its was just decent, nothing amazing about it.



I would rate this place above average but nothing magical. I felt that this place is a bit over rated. It could be the better dim sum restaurant in the neighborhood but definitely not the best. It's a worth for a visit for decent dim sum so keep your expectations low. Service was good and price was reasonable.

Dim Sum @ Restoran Keyway, Paramount (Dec 08)

I was looking thru a Food Directory book (yes, such book existed and it can be very handy for food "expeditions") few days ago and I spotted Keyway. I remember I ate there before! So I went to search in my picture folders and I found it! It happened on 8th of Dec 2008. It was a lovely Sunday and I met up with Rachel and her family there.

I was told this place has been there for a while. Located across Giant in Paramount Garden, I guess this place is not so hard to find.



It was a rainy Sunday, a good time to sleep but my passion on "dim sum" made me drove all the way from Cheras to Paramount. I love "dim sum".



I was pampered with their famous home made fish ball. I took a bite of it, and I loved it. It was pretty good!



We ordered "the usual" dim sums. Siew Mai, Prawn Dumplings and Pork Ribs. All was not too bad, decent.



The thing with me and dim sum or sushi is, I tend to "over" order.



Char Siew "Sou" was not bad either. At this point, as usual, I was full.



Lastly, someone ordered a "tao sar pao" (red bean bun) for me. When I opened it to 2, I knew it must be good. Look at the fillings! It was good!

The place was very family oriented place with lovely Chinese tea poured by the gentlemen there. Service was okay and price was reasonable. Food... well, decent. Worth for a trip to try if you stay nearby.

Dim Sum @ Hong Min, MBK

I believe in luck sometimes. I was randomly picking a restaurant when I was in MBK. I bumped to this Chinese restaurant, Hong Min. Since, I'm not a big fan of spicy food and I loved dim sum so much, I decided to try out this place.

I ordered 3 plates (since I'm eating alone). There's a plate of the prawn dish was quite interesting. There's a quail egg inside the dim sum. That was my first time eating such dim sum. The sauce was special as well. Instead of sweet sauce in Malaysia, they provide 2 sauces, soy sauce and a yellow sauce (I suspect ginger). I ordered Char Siew Bau also! But just so so, nothing amazing. The dim sum was cheap, 30Baht per plate and it was pretty good. However, I realized they are famous for other Chinese foods as well. Too bad, I only got 1 tummy, if not I would try the rest.

Great service, good food and great pricing. They have 6 more other outlets in Bangkok.

Dim Sum @ Damansara Palace, Kota Damansara

Its hard to explain when a person drive down to Kota Damansara from Cheras for dim sum. I would say its for the food. Either way, I drove to somewhere further than this for food. In one fine morning Sunday, 3 of us went to Damansara Palace @ Kota Damansara for dim sum....

The feast cost us around RM 4x plus a pot of tea. Food was good, bun was my favourite. It will be a big packed on weekends. Service there was not too bad. Place is big, but do make reservations. The place is a bit far from my place, if not it will be a good weekend place to be. Nothing makes better than having dim sum in Sunday morning with a good pot of tea.
