Ramadhan Food Stalls @ Pandan Jaya

*HALAL*

There's one food season that's well forgotten by most Malaysians. The Ramadhan season! During the Ramadhan fasting period, there are many Ramadhan food stalls in KL sell foods like ayam percik, murtabak and such. And only during Ramadhan, this food stalls had the permit to sell at the designated areas. I went to the Ramadhan food stalls in Pandan Jaya, Cheras lately.

r1

It's a one year once affair. No way I'm going to miss Ramadhan foods this time around.

r2

Ayam percik!!

r3

Ayam percik at RM 3.50 each. Geez, price increased this year. It used to be RM 3 or RM 2.50 (depending on area). Look at the chicken covered by the "kuah" (gravy).

r4

Murtabak ayam and murtabak daging (beef).

r5

Ooo... check it out! Hand made! RM 2.00 each!

Overall, the ayam percik was smaller in size. The "kuah" was good to me, not really to spicy. For RM 3.50, it's slightly expensive though. The murtabak was slightly better but price also inflated to RM 2.00. Foods were okay, good for buka puasa, nothing impressive though.

I guess the economy downturn hits the traders as well. Prices increased and portion is much smaller.

There's quite a number of stalls around the area. Enjoy! "Selamat Berbuka Puasa!"

RM 1.50 Nasi Lemak @ Sri Weld Food Court, Penang

It was RM 1.20 when I came across Vkeong's post. Now, its RM 1.50. Guess the inflation hits Penang as well as in KL.

I didn't go there on purpose... seriously. It was by chance. It was too early in the morning to look for foods. It was around 10 am and it happened a few weeks ago. Lorong Selamat's famous stalls were still unopened at that time so we went around and found this food court.

We were told that the beef noodle is famous there. Yet, I found something interesting there as well.

Don't tell me after looking this nasi lemak preparation (picture above), you are not tempted to try one. The malay owners paid no attention to me, even though I kept taking pictures of their stall.

udang1

They sell 3 types of nasi lemak, the nasi lemak sambal udang (prawn), nasi lemak ikan bilis (enchovies) and egg, nasi lemak ikan (fish). All at RM 1.50 each! That was bloody cheap.

I bought the prawn nasi lemak and slowly unwrapped the banana leaf. The size of the prawn caught the attention of my friends and they were surprised it's only RM 1.50. The rice was very fragrant and not to mention the spicy prawn sambal. It was very good indeed. It was a no regrets affair having this, lovely!
Recommendable!

Indian Food (Mamak) @ Nagas, Brickfields

*Halal Food*

Surprisingly after so long, this is my first post on Mamak (Tamil Muslim) foods. Don't get me wrong, I loved mamak foods such as roti canai and tosai paper as well.

nagas

Brickfields has heaps of mamak shops and indian restaurants. Normally, I went to Nagas for my mamak craves. Nagas is located opposite La Salle school, around the Brickfields Police Station. The good thing about them is they have their open parking spaces.

teh tarik

Teh tarik...

sardine

Roti sardine. Lots of chili "padi" mixed with sardine and onions. Personally, I would prefer without it. It would be a little bit nicer if the skin was crispier. It was decent.

tosai

Paper tosai.... Paper tosai is named such way as tosai is cooked to paper thin. Paper tosai is usually very crispy. Loved this. I always loved to take this with the coconut sauce.

Food here are generally good but slightly pricey. Place is clean but its a self service restaurant. It operates 24 hours a day.

5 Layers of Beef Burger @ Wendy's Pepper Stacker Media Launch, Jaya One

Thank you Wendy's for the media invite. I almost ran late for it as I was caught with a meeting earlier on.

Well then, what's this Pepper Stacker is all about?

Pepper Stacker - Only RM4.99!

Basically you customize the
burger up to 5 stacks from the original 2 stacks.

Pepper Stacker - Stack it up!

Well, since I'm "kiasu" enough, I stacked it to 5 stacks!

After the media briefing, we were given an exclusive tour to the kitchen of Wendy's. Due to some of their secret recipes, we were not allowed to take any photographs of it.

We were shown the process of cooking the Pepper Stacker burger. Each single beef patty was cooked by a "chef" and then dipped into the thick pepper sauce. They were using the square flat pan to cook it, similar to those at Ramli burger stalls. I wonder whether did they hire the "chef" off those stalls.

After the short brief tour, I could wait anymore for my Pepper Stackers with 5 beef patties! I named it as Pepper Stacker 5 stacks!

My custom made burger!

bur

Checked out the size of this! Generously with lots of hot pepper sauce!

makan

Its kinda sloppy as there's 5 stacks of beef patties. You have been warned!

bur-done

I know its a bit gross but you can easily the 5 layers of beef patties.

Someone asked me whether was it juicy or not? The answer was yes. The beef was tender and as each single beef patty was dipped into the pepper sauce, it was very juicy and hot. Ya, almost for the sauteed onions as well. Anyways, I loved it!

This is my first time I had a 5 layers of beef burger. I'm proud of it!

Famous Rojak @ SS 15 Rojak Stall, Subang

*Pork Free*

For some unknown reasons, I couldn't find the remaining pictures of this place. Personally, I've been to this place a few times. Formerly, the stall was located at the main road opposite the Shell petrol station if not mistaken. Now its located also at the main road in front of SS 15 KFC.

The stall often has long queue and normally patrons ate at roadsides.

rojak2

As good as it gets...

The rojak here was good, sadly I couldn't find the pictures I took to post here. The price was around RM 3 and above (depends what you want to add). Its for take away or you could sit at the roadside, Malaysian roadside eating style. Recommendable but often there's a long queue.

Address:
In front of KFC SS 15, beside Subang Square, at the main road facing the housing area.

Halal Chinese Food @ Restoran Sri Karak, PJ

*HALAL

Restoran Sri Karak is famous for its durian tarts. Yet, many might not know that they serve Halal Chinese food. Good Halal Chinese food.

A few weeks ago, I went there for a casual dinner with Rachel. The restaurant is located at the opposite of the MBPJ. Same row with RHB Bank but located at the other end. Its a corner lot 2 storey restaurant, the signage is in yellow colour. Shouldn't be a problem locating it.

karak1

Since it was just the 2 of us, we ordered only a few dishes. We started with the sambal sotong. I loved it but it was slightly oily. The spicyness and the taste was good. The sambal sotong was RM 12.

karak2

Then we tried the stir fried Ostrich meat (RM 15).

Ostrich meat tastes similar to lean beef and is low in fat and cholesterol, as well as high in calcium, protein and iron. - Wikipedia

It was good, yet again slightly oily. The meat was tender and the best part is its healthy!

karak3

Next we had deep fried beancurd (RM 6). I loved this! The skin was so crispy! Beancurd was really smooth. It goes very well with sauce (soya sauce I think?) as well. Recommendable!

karak4

Since we didn't have their famous Durian tarts and Durian Bombs, we decided to order their Durian ABC (Ais Batu Campur / Mixed Crushed Ice). The significant different was the durian ice cream on top. For durian lovers, this is absolutely "durianlicious". Durian ABC is priced at RM 6.

Overall, the food was good despite being HALAL. Slightly oily on stir fried dishes. Service was excellent and the place is well air conditioned. Total bill came to RM 46.50.

Recommendable!
