Famous Kuantan Curry Noodle @ Hoi Yin, Teluk Cempedak

I can count on my fingers if you asked me how many times I had been to Kuantan. The last trip was purely work but I did manage to catch some time to try some of their famous local delicacy.

Recommended by a friend, me and my crews drove from Kuantan town to Teluk Cempedak. Apparently there's a famous curry noodle by the name of Restoran Hoi Yin. Its located a few steps away from the beautiful beach of Teluk Cempedak.




Upon reaching there, the place was already packed. After a short wait, we managed to grab a table.



The curry kuey teow at RM 3.50.. Comments below...



The curry noodle at RM 3.50. The curry kuey noodle came with a generous amount of cockles (siham), chicken meat, tau fu pok, fish cake and beansprouts. The curry paste was thick and rich with hints of coconut juice. Should I say more? This was good.

The food was good and the service was okay. However, the place was quite hot and stuffy. Price was very reasonable, not complains.

Durian Feast @ Karak

Last Sunday, I was invited to a durian feast by the owners of Sri Karak Restaurant. Me and my wife, Rachel traveled to Karak, Pahang to visit their durian farm. The sources of their durian products were all directly from their durian farm. It was our first time to visit such durian farm. We were excited and happy for the invitation. Thank you Jen for the invitation, really appreciate it.



Except for marathons, we seldom wake up early on Sunday. Approx. an hour driving from KL, we reached Karak.



Then, we were brought into their private durian farm.



We were shown a 1/2 truck load of durians available for the durian feast. We were joined by a group of 50++ people for the feast. Many good grades durians were there. It includes "Red Prawn", "Mau San Wong", D24, X.O and others.



It was one of the premium durian available that day. If not mistaken, its either "Red Prawn" or XO.



We stumbled upon the biggest durian I've seen in my life. Its called the "Golden Pillow". This was weighed around 7 kg, with street value around RM 70.



Like the rest, we never had "golden pillow" before so they were happily open one of them for us.



It was huge. Checked out the size of it on my hand. That was only a seed worth size. The taste was surprisingly sweet, waterish and its very filling. I was told it wasn't fully ripe yet. If not, it will taste much better.

After a 2 hours of durian feast, we called it a day. Yet, before we leave we saw someting interesting in the farm...

Gohtong Jaya's Famous Frog Mee Hoon & Crispy Pork Belly @ Restoran Hou Wan

This was not a planned visit to Gohtong Jaya. This was weeks ago when Rachel was at Genting Highlands for an event, together I went up with my youngest brother and we lost a couple of hundred ringgit (casino) there. Then, we went to Gohtong Jaya for a quick lunch before heading back home.



There were a row of restaurants and we chose Restoran Hou Wan in random, seriously. There, we were recommended the frog mee hon and the crispy pork belly. We ordered an extra hokkien mee.



The crispy pork belly came first (RM 12). Thin sliced pork belly was deep fried and stir fried with sweet dark sauce. The first bite was flavoury crunchy. It was good! Well, we loved it. Its pure crunchiness, like having a snack and it goes very well with the thick sauce. I wished I had a beer and a football game in front of me. I wished...



Hokkien mee was next at RM 11. Sadly, this was average. Noodle was rather "a bit too sloppy" and the taste was rather flat. Not recommendable!



Lastly, we had the frog mee hoon at RM 36. Slightly pricey maybe due to the frog meat. Personally, I'm not so much of a frog meat lover. I only had them once in a blue moon. The reason I tried this because I was told this was good. And the lady boss didn't lie. It was pretty good. The frog meat was fresh, very tender. The mee hoon was lovely with the blend of the soup (with Chinese wine I suspect) and garlic.

Overall, the food was very good except the Hokkien mee. Pricing was subjective, slightly high to me.

Colmar Tropicale is a french theme resort in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. Since I took some pictures of it last year during an event launch, I figured why not post it here.

I heard so much about this place so going there last year was indeed an eye opener. The journey took an hour or so from KL. Going thru a road from Karak highway will reached this lovely place.

Much money has been spent building such lovely concept French themed buildings and resorts. The cooling weather made this place so.... not Malaysia...


I will come back one day to stay at one of the resorts here. Something different.
