Malaysia's Very Own Bat Cave @ Langkawi

Often when we talk about bat cave, the first thing that comes to our mind is Batman. Well, it is true that Batman has a bat cave. However, our country Malaysia also have our version of bat cave.

Located in Langkawi, the bat cave tour is usually packaged under the mangrove tour. Tour prices varies depending on how many person per boat and what type of boat hired. What I can say is we got ourselves quite a sweet deal. This was dated back in October last year.

BAT0

Platforms were built towards the cave in the middle of the mangrove jungle.

Inside the cave was total darkness. When I flashed my camera, I realized there were lots of bats on the ceiling of the cave. Its kinda creepy though.

c2

Even it looks like droppings, trust me they were bats.

The bat cave tour was included in the mangrove tour like I mentioned as the above. Most hotels have the information about the mangrove tour and other local tours.

I Met Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad @ The Loaf, Langkawi (Oct '08)

Do you know that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad owns The Loaf? asked by my friend, Joyce.

"Yeah, I know..." I replied.

"His office is up there..." Joyce pointing up on the 2nd floor of The Loaf at Telaga Harbour Park, Langkawi. Obviously she was joking at that time.

The story itself is old, it goes way back to October 2008 when we were having a lovely trip to Langkawi. I guess probably many might not know Tun actually owned a bakery shop by the name of The Loaf. It has 2 outlets, one in Langkawi and the other one is in Pavilion, KL.

So then, I ignored Joyce comments and we chilled at a restaurant nearby. Then, we saw a small crowd passed by and then Joyce was pointing... "That's Tun Dr. Mahathir..."

Its hard to believe Tun was actually in his bakery.

l1

The lovely The Loaf at Telaga Harbour Park...

l2

Tun "spot check" his bakery??

l3

Crowd became bigger as many saw Tun is in his shop. I wasted no time and asked a permission to take a picture with him....

"Tun, how are you? Can we have a picture with you?" - Superwilson

"If you want to take a picture. I have to charge" - Tun Dr. Mahathir

"....... " - Superwilson

"I charge 10 cent per picture" Tun Dr. Mahathir joked... (phew)

Then, he quickly asked his assistant to take a picture of us.

As our ex-prime minister, he was humble and he remained a fatherly figure to many Malaysians. Its hard to believe he became a "baker" (owner of the bakery) right now. He took some time and enjoyed his tea with many passerby greeted him, including foreign tourists. Tun made our day, its honoured to greet him in person.

Underwater World Langkawi (Oct '08)

Undeniable one of the attractions in Langkawi, the Underwater World Langkawi. I went there before, many years ago when they were newly opened. Now, the place now expanded so much, I barely recognized it. There was an unpleasant thing happened in 2007, where hundreds of fish died of poisoning.

under1

The entrance. For Mykad holders (Malaysians), entrance fee was RM 28 for adults while foreigners were RM 38.

Even though there were a tragic incident a year before, there were a lot of fishes were restored. Almost all sections were opened and the place was still a nice place to visit. I loved the penguins section and their feeding session. The penguins were so cute, we were there for quite a while.

There's also a small 3D cinema hall, another great effort.

I enjoyed the Underwater World Langkawi. Certainly not the best I've seen, but its decent.

Italian Pizza @ T-Jays Italian Bistro and Pizzeria, Langkawi (Nov 08)

Fancy nice and cozy Italian restaurant in Langkawi? Located opposite of Langkawi Underwater World, there's a little green sign very much visible from the main road. The funny thing about this Italian place is, its run by English couple. Well, of course I had this during my Langkawi trip on Oct 2008.

We went for a quick meal since we had plans for our dinner. We ordered Olive, Onion and Cheese Bread for starter. It was pretty good but I'm not a olive lover. Since we were in Langkawi, we ordered a lovely pink RUFFINO Rose Wine. The wine was good. At last, we ordered a Quattro Pizza. The pizza was excellent. With great services, great wine and great food, it only cost us less than RM 130 plus the wine. We felt its a great deal!

Aseania Resort, Langkawi Review

We got a really good deal to Langkawi in Oct with Air Asia Package. We chose Aseania Resort. The place itself is huge. In fact, it is famous for its longest swimming pool in Malaysia. I don't expect much from a 3 stars hotel.

The rooms were still okay. There were stains here and there which I don't really mind. The corridor was a bit of run down. However, the service was good. They have local channels only, not even Astro was there, I wonder why.

The breakfast was decent. Eggs, Fried Noodle, Cornflakes and sausages.

The swimming pool was good. Even though its huge, it was considered well maintained. I loved the pool.

Location is good also. Its middle of everywhere. There are spas and restaurant within walking distance. No beach though.

I felt that the place is too big for them to maintain. For the price, its worth a stay. However its not for the fussy people that minds about stains and such. To be frank, I don't mind going back again.

Number of rooms: 217

Location: Pantai Tengah Beach / Pulau Rebak

Address: Simpang 3, Jalan Pantai Tengah, Langkawi, Malaysia

Langkawi GeoPark and Island View From The Top (Oct 08)

"You must go and take the cable car!" - That was what my sister told me before I went to Langkawi. To tell you the truth, I have no idea what it was all about.

We went through the entrance, waited for 20 min for our ride and...

... it was magnificent... on our way up, I managed to zoom my old Sony Cybershot to this waterfall... Natural waterfall "untouched"...

I thought that was it but it was only the teaser, the rest was breathtaking...

The hills with the islands at the back.... breathtaking...

The hills with background of the sea.... the view was outstanding...

I couldn't remember how much I paid but for Malaysians are cheaper. Remember to flash your IC to get better rates. Its a must do thing in Langkawi, very worthwhile. I don't mind going up again...

Eagle Feeding @ Langkawi

There are still a few things that I've yet to post about my trip to Langkawi a few months back. I must say this trip has change my mind set about Langkawi. There are so many interesting stuffs to do, not like it used to be.

Eagle Feeding tour is normally packaged with Mangrove Tour. Its quite breath taking seeing eagles dive speedily down to the river to fetch their foods.

I took a few pictures, you can clearly see the eagles swarming at the area waiting for fish...

This is the video I filmed using my camera... enjoy...

Kung Fu Fighting @ Chinese Kung Fu BBQ Restaurant, Langkawi

Whoa... I know Kung Fu.... - Keanu Reeves in Matrix...

But Keanu never ate in Chinese Kung Fu Restaurant... I did!

When you see a sign reads "Chinese Kung Fu BBQ Restaurant"... you expect to see lots of kung fu actions... maybe in the restaurant... or the food... or both??

So there I was getting involved with the Kung Fu actions... the Southern Tiger Claw!!!

Rachel also got involved in da Kung Fu fighting...

The gang....

We anxiously waiting for our Kung Fu foods...

For the mean time, I went around and snap pictures...

Our first dish, seafood pot... got shark fins!!

Fried "sotong"...

Thai Sytle Meat dish...

"Kam Hiong" Style Crab...

We paid less than RM 200 for all of the food. No wine, only beers and fruit drinks. The food was good and service was excellent. I intended to try something different in Langkawi so we chose this place because of its name uniqueness. I will update the address later.

Thai Seafood @ Rose Tea 2, Langkawi

I had this on October 2008 when I was in Langkawi. We just randomly chose this restaurant and it didn't turn out to be bad. I guess when you are in Langkawi, liquors will be the first choice no matter where you eat. We ordered a vege and crabs. I'm on a flower crab lover so I don't really like the crabs. The taste was ok but not the crabs.

The Tom Yam soup was good. You can see the size of the prawn! The "kung po" chicken was good. Overall we spent around RM 100. Decent pricing, good service.

Harbour Steakhouse @ Langkawi

Well, we knew its a Harbour Steakhouse and they served steaks. However, we didn't want to stuffed ourselves in the afternoon, so we decided...

..to have sandwiches instead...

Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast Sandwich...

Roast Beef and Onion Sandwich...

The fantastic things I learn from restaurants at Harbour Park is the price are somehow quite reasonable. Sandwiches plus drink came to a RM 20 a pax. Considering the lovely view we had and the services were good, its a must go place. By the way, did I tell you that the food was good?

Another great restaurant in Harbour Park. I miss the sandwiches, I shouldn't blog about this in the middle of the night. Makes me hungry now...

Mare Blu Kafe @ Harbour Park, Langkawi

This one of the few we tried at Harbour Park itself. We thought of going elsewhere to try out some foods but at the end of the day, we stick to Harbour Park for lunch.

Amazingly, we went to Mare Blu Kafe out of the blue...

The starters...
The pasta... I love this one, this is a charmer...

The pizza, not too bad...

The cabonara is quite good...

The mango pudding..

Lovely ice-cream...
We were so tempted by the set lunches available at Harbour Park. Mare Blu Kafe offered set menus ranges from RM 1x ++ to less than RM 40... It was value for money, provided with the excellent services and the lovely food we had. I don't mind coming back for the lovely pastas...

Noodle On Fire @ Restoran Fat Mum Seafood, Langkawi

When I was in Langkawi, we were in search of good seafood. Harbour Park was one of our favourites but since we were staying at Pantai Tengah, we scouted around for a good place to eat. We passed by this Restoran Fat Mum Seafood a numerous time with the Vios we rented. So on one of the evenings, we drove in and checked the menu and we decided to give it a try...

We were seated at this 2 storey stand alone building... A woman came out and served us and we knew she's the fat mum (coz she was fat).

We ordered our food and the first dish was the "Noodle on Fire"...

"Self proclaimed" to be the "first in Langkawi", the noodle was indeed on fire...Whooaaa!!

It was a lovely "Man" Yee Mee.... Lovely dish... Must try!!

Then, she recommended something called "Fruit basket".... she dared us saying we never had such dish before and she was right... It was pretty good...

It's similar to yam basket but this made from potato.... she was cheeky...

Homemade Taufu....

Beansprout....

"Kam Hiong" Crabs...

Steamed Tiger Prawns with special sauce...

The food was pretty good especially the noodle on fire and the fruit basket. The feast plus beers, fruit drinks and so on only cost less than RM 200. The restaurant has been around for more than 10 years so the place is a bit old. There is a big sign you can see from the main road. The place is usually packed. I will go back there again if I'm going to Langkawi again. I loved their good foods and their innovative food menus...
