We Stumbled Across Pantai Kemasik @ Terengganu

We had a holiday in Cherating way back in June. Yaay! It was our second time in Cherating.

At one of the days, we decided to drive to Kuala Terengganu. On the way, we stumbled across Pantai Kemasik.



It's still under renovation at that time, but curious us went in to have a peek.



It was a lovely day...








The sand was not that smooth but the beach looked good!

We rest there for a while before we "U-turn" back to Cherating. Kuala Terengganu road trip attempt FAILED! ...but we still loved the beach!

Foo Chow Kampua Noodle @ Top One Food Court, Kuching

Everyone knows about Ko Lo Mee when you talk about Kuching. Yet, many might not know what's Foo Chow Kampua Noodle. We managed to try it when we were in Kuching.

Just a day before I left to Kuching, my mum told me to remember to meet my uncle in Kuching. As forgetful as I am always, I almost forgot that I have an uncle in Kuching. Geez, he would be so upset when he read this.

As we met him during the last day of our trip, my uncle drove us to a food call called Top One Food Court.





The place was still busy even though past the usual breakfast crowd. The food court is popular with its Sarawak laksa (which I will blog about it later) and apparently, my uncle told me the Foo Chow Kampua Noodle there also not bad.



The Foo Chow Kampua Noodle Stall...



Though it looked like the usual Ko Lo Mee, don't deceived by its look.



Look carefully, it only comes with "char siew" (roasted pork). The taste slightly differs than the usual Ko Lo Mee. The Foo Chow Kampua Noodle lacked the vinegar that the usual Ko Lo Mee has. The taste was similar to a "longkang" (drain) noodle we had in Tampin, Melaka (Malacca) years ago. That was the feeling and the taste I could describe. Topped with the chopped spring onions, Foo Chow Kampua Mee could very addictive like the Ko Lo Mee!

Personally, I liked the taste of the noodle. To me its quite decent, yet it depends on personal preferences on this.

For RM 2.50-RM 3.50, could we ask for more?

Home Sweet Home, We Are Back In Kuala Lumpur

Plane didn't get delay. Everything was smooth except the "smart" Air Asia counter fella who got us different seats when we checked in at Kuching airport. Well, we were "smarter" when we realized the mistake minutes before boarding.

I was hoping to hot chick to sit beside me since Rachel was sitting behind me. It didn't happen! I got some weird looking guy instead. Rachel got one irritating "uncle" who sat a row behind her who did all sorts of funny things behind; sneeze, blurp and probably fart.

Luckily, I managed to capture a few lovely Klang Valley night shots with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15.

No matter how, we finally reached home. Home sweet home, we are back in Kuala Lumpur!

Live Blogging: From Kuching

Tonight will be our last night in Kuching. Didn't go much visiting except trying out a few restaurants here and there. Food here are very interesting. From Ko Lo Noodle to Laksa Style crabs as well as "umai ikan" to "tuak" mojito. Sadly, we have yet to visit the major tourist spots here. Hopefully, tomorrow we got time for some.

At the same time, Rachel is having a good sleep while I'm still awake to do blogging. We had a full day trip around Kuching looking for foods and we went to Damai beach as well today.

Dream Wedding Chapel @ Blue Point Bay Villas & Spa, BALI

Let me put something nice for a Friday. Since we are going to have a long weekend ala Merdeka celebrations, we will be away for a short holiday as well. We will be going to Kuching for a short trip.

The Famous Kek Lok Si Temple @ Penang

This dated June when we were there for a short trip. We didn't been to Kek Lok Si for a while so going there was a dejavu... There's few things you can do around Kek Lok Si, shopping, eating and the Penang Hill cable car. I did blog about the famous assam laksa around the area, read more about it HERE. We didn't manage to go up the famous Penang Hill as the tickets were sold out!



Unfortunately, we were late and they were closing. Yet, they were nice enough for us to sneak in for a while.

A short history of Kek Lok Si as below from Wikipedia:

The construction of the temple began in 1890 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras.

The primary benefactor of the Kek Lok Si Temple in 1906 was none other than Kapitan Chung Keng Quee.

In 1930, the seven storey main pagoda of the temple or the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown; reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.

In 2002, a 30.2m bronze statue of the Kuan Yin was completed and opened to public. The statue is located on the hillside above the pagoda. - Wikipedia

The time we there, they were constructing a building surrounding the bronze statue of Kuan Yin. My first visit was in 1980s. The temple did multiple renovations and its much nicer now than it used to be. A must go place if you visit Penang.

Malaysia's Very Own Bat Cave @ Langkawi

Often when we talk about bat cave, the first thing that comes to our mind is Batman. Well, it is true that Batman has a bat cave. However, our country Malaysia also have our version of bat cave.

Located in Langkawi, the bat cave tour is usually packaged under the mangrove tour. Tour prices varies depending on how many person per boat and what type of boat hired. What I can say is we got ourselves quite a sweet deal. This was dated back in October last year.



Platforms were built towards the cave in the middle of the mangrove jungle.



Inside the cave was total darkness. When I flashed my camera, I realized there were lots of bats on the ceiling of the cave. Its kinda creepy though.



Even it looks like droppings, trust me they were bats.



The bat cave tour was included in the mangrove tour like I mentioned as the above. Most hotels have the information about the mangrove tour and other local tours.

Superwilson Sell Toys @ Amcorp Mall Flea Market

Today marked the first time I shared a stall in Amcorp Mall's Flea Market to clear off my toys for more space at home. Well, firstly thanks KC and Chris (below) for helping me.

I met a lot of toys collectors who were shocked to see me. After missing in action for months, it was really happy to meet them.




I didn't bring much toys to sell today. Today mainly trying to learn and survey what to sell. Will bring more next time around. My next round will be at September 6th. I will bring more vintage toys to sell.

Next weekend, I will be at Kuching for a short trip. It will be my first visit to Kuching, getting very excited about it.

FHM, Culinaire Malaysia 2009 @ KLCC

A quick and short post. Well, yesterday I went to FM Culinaire Malaysia 2009 @ Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. It was supposed to be a short stop, supposed to be.

Once I stepped into the hall, I spotted someone familiar, Ben... He "crafted" a cool drink for me, LOVELY!



As I walking around looking for free foods, I bumped to the owner of English Hot Breads. Well, Dato' is a very nice and humble person, had a long chat with him.



I thought I bumped to an edible "chocolate man". Oopps...



Lastly, bumped to a gang of food bloggers.

I will be at Mid Valley Exhibition Center for this few days to support the Amazing Thailand Festival 2009. See you there!

Famous Kuantan Curry Noodle @ Hoi Yin, Teluk Cempedak

I can count on my fingers if you asked me how many times I had been to Kuantan. The last trip was purely work but I did manage to catch some time to try some of their famous local delicacy.

Recommended by a friend, me and my crews drove from Kuantan town to Teluk Cempedak. Apparently there's a famous curry noodle by the name of Restoran Hoi Yin. Its located a few steps away from the beautiful beach of Teluk Cempedak.




Upon reaching there, the place was already packed. After a short wait, we managed to grab a table.



The curry kuey teow at RM 3.50.. Comments below...



The curry noodle at RM 3.50. The curry kuey noodle came with a generous amount of cockles (siham), chicken meat, tau fu pok, fish cake and beansprouts. The curry paste was thick and rich with hints of coconut juice. Should I say more? This was good.

The food was good and the service was okay. However, the place was quite hot and stuffy. Price was very reasonable, not complains.

Mix Fm's Super Chic Sunday & Dearly Deported

Few weeks ago, Serena C of Mix Fm came out with a brilliant idea to celebrate her birthday. A charity auction called Super Chic Sunday. Celebrities got to auction off their personal belongings and the money collected will go to charity. Brilliant idea!

As a loyal listener of Mix Fm, we (me and Rachel) went there to support the Serena C's Super Chic Sunday. We do know Pietro personally from a previous event. He's a great bud.



Well, of course Serena C didn't know me or my wife personally, but for the sake of charity, it worth the trip.



Many items were auctioned off at reasonable price. There were some performances by the artists as well.

While watching the auction, Rachel got herself a nice white pants. It was Serena C's Island Shop white pants. She got it for RM 10 only. What a steal! (Though I asked Rachel to double check for "lubang" and stains). For those who were not there, you guys missed the bargain and the show.

At the end of the day, the event managed to raise RM 10,000! It was a huge and great effort!

Rachel wears the pants quite often and she loved it.

Lately, Mix Fm is currently running the Dearly Deported. We are following the program and we were touched by the today's episode. Check it out!



Siblings to meet for the first time after 45 years! One word only, touching....

The program really gives meaningful episodes to someone's lives. It probably touched thousands of Mix Fm's listeners this morning. Looking forward for the next one!

Live Blogging: From Tune Hotel, Penang

Well, its not really my intention to do live blogging from Tune Hotel, Penang. Just that I couldn't sleep even a whole day long of work so why not?

I checked in quarter to 12 midnight. Pre-booked the rooms yesterday and got ourselves (me and my crews) a very small but very clean and modern looking rooms. Its a one night stay, I'm leaving later.

I posted a few messages on my msn, twitter and plurk asking for supper from Penangites, only a few replied. Knowing my usual over friendly craziness attitude, I called it a day rather than seeking for a friend for supper.

Without me around, my wife went out with her friends till late. I had no say in her social life, she had her own privacy exclusively for her. Of course, I do know the friends she went out with.

I took a few pictures in this room that I'm having now, will upload it probably later.

I Met Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad @ The Loaf, Langkawi (Oct '08)

Do you know that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad owns The Loaf? asked by my friend, Joyce.

"Yeah, I know..." I replied.

"His office is up there..." Joyce pointing up on the 2nd floor of The Loaf at Telaga Harbour Park, Langkawi. Obviously she was joking at that time.

The story itself is old, it goes way back to October 2008 when we were having a lovely trip to Langkawi. I guess probably many might not know Tun actually owned a bakery shop by the name of The Loaf. It has 2 outlets, one in Langkawi and the other one is in Pavilion, KL.

So then, I ignored Joyce comments and we chilled at a restaurant nearby. Then, we saw a small crowd passed by and then Joyce was pointing... "That's Tun Dr. Mahathir..."

Its hard to believe Tun was actually in his bakery.

Crowd became bigger as many saw Tun is in his shop. I wasted no time and asked a permission to take a picture with him....

"Tun, how are you? Can we have a picture with you?" - Superwilson

"If you want to take a picture. I have to charge" - Tun Dr. Mahathir

"....... " - Superwilson

"I charge 10 cent per picture" Tun Dr. Mahathir joked... (phew)

Then, he quickly asked his assistant to take a picture of us.

As our ex-prime minister, he was humble and he remained a fatherly figure to many Malaysians. Its hard to believe he became a "baker" (owner of the bakery) right now. He took some time and enjoyed his tea with many passerby greeted him, including foreign tourists. Tun made our day, its honoured to greet him in person.

Famous Fried Oyster Omelette @ Jalan Bunga Raya, Melaka (Malacca)

There's one famous fried oyster omelette in Melaka that well known with the locals for generations. Its a small stall that's only operates at night at Medan Makanan Bunga Raya at Jalan Bunga Raya. The stall normally operates from 8pm until midnight and expect a long queue to order.

My father's hometown is Melaka. He told me that, the stall was already popular when he was a kid. The stall has been operating at least 40-50 years. My grandma told me they used to cook with duck eggs which tasted much better. Now, they only use normal chicken eggs. After generations passed, the small little stall is there.

This picture was taken last year during my last trip to Melaka. I had been searching this few pictures for weeks and glad I found it.



That's the stall with the huge pan. They can cook up at least 5-6 plates at once!



Look at the amount of the eggs!



Sadly, I didn't manage to have the fried oyster that day. I needed to wait for an hour if I wanted to have the fried oyster. I couldn't wait as it was already 11pm.

The fried oyster omelette is popular because its cooked to perfection. Fried oyster omelette there were usually starchy (not crispy) and the oysters were small. Its different than the fried oyster omelette from KL (Kuala Lumpur).

My father would always take away a few plates back to KL if he would be in Melaka. A plate used to cost around RM 8 each plate but I wouldn't know how much it costs now.

Durian Feast @ Karak

Last Sunday, I was invited to a durian feast by the owners of Sri Karak Restaurant. Me and my wife, Rachel traveled to Karak, Pahang to visit their durian farm. The sources of their durian products were all directly from their durian farm. It was our first time to visit such durian farm. We were excited and happy for the invitation. Thank you Jen for the invitation, really appreciate it.



Except for marathons, we seldom wake up early on Sunday. Approx. an hour driving from KL, we reached Karak.



Then, we were brought into their private durian farm.



We were shown a 1/2 truck load of durians available for the durian feast. We were joined by a group of 50++ people for the feast. Many good grades durians were there. It includes "Red Prawn", "Mau San Wong", D24, X.O and others.



It was one of the premium durian available that day. If not mistaken, its either "Red Prawn" or XO.



We stumbled upon the biggest durian I've seen in my life. Its called the "Golden Pillow". This was weighed around 7 kg, with street value around RM 70.



Like the rest, we never had "golden pillow" before so they were happily open one of them for us.



It was huge. Checked out the size of it on my hand. That was only a seed worth size. The taste was surprisingly sweet, waterish and its very filling. I was told it wasn't fully ripe yet. If not, it will taste much better.

After a 2 hours of durian feast, we called it a day. Yet, before we leave we saw someting interesting in the farm...
