Pumpkin Butter Prawn & Green Dragon Vege @ Restoran Shen Jing Seng, Cheras

*NON-HALAL*

This could be one of the hidden gem of Cheras.

Located at one of the gardens (taman-taman) behind Phoenix Plaza, its one of the restaurants that not many people would know. My parents brought us there a few times and the food were consistently good. The last round we were there was a few months ago for dinner.

potato

We started with the stir fried potato leaf with fermented beancurd. Noticed that this dish was slightly dry but it was well stir fried. I preferred such dry version that the sloppy fermented beancurd stir fried version.

green

This was something that I never tried before. They called it the green dragon vegetables. The unique name came with an unique taste. The vege itself was soft but it was well blended with the sauce. Vege was fresh and it was very tasty.

foo chok

Fish cake with foo chok was quite decent. The home made fish cake was fresh and tender.

hot pot

The hot pot squid could be addictive. To me, the level of spiciness was just nice to me. This was good.

fish

Steamed Fish with ginger was slightly disappointed as it was slightly overcooked. If not, it would be perfect. Fish was generously covered with ginger.

pumpkin

There was nothing to impress me more than this dish. The pumpkin butter prawns. This was my first time having such dish. Prawns cooked with butter and pumpkin sauce and served inside a fresh pumpkin. The taste was outstanding and its deeply flavoured in the world of butter and pumpkin. Amazing!

The food was generally good and price was very reasonable. Service was okay and the place was well air conditioned.

Recommended!

German Pork Knuckle @ Quan Villa Restaurant, Sitiawan

*NON HALAL*

I was in Sitiawan again for work a few months ago. Since my client knew about my blog, they brought me to different restaurants. This was a lunch, a stone away from the Lumut port.

lala

We started with la la with cucumber soup at RM 10.

fried oyster

Then the usual fried oyster omelette at RM 12. Sitiawan's version used more eggs than starch, different than the ones we have here in KL. Both have their own individual taste, I loved both.

potato leaf

Potato Leaf with garlic was next at RM 12. Slightly wet, but the vege was fresh. This was decent.

taufu

Dry butter beancurd was a first one to me at RM 12. Normally, we had dry butter prawns, fish or mantis prawns, but for butter beancurd it was something unique. I loved this one, though it was slightly oily.

thai style

Thai style fish was priced at RM 42. Deeply flavoured in thai sauce, the fish was never lack of freshness. Sauce was thick and wasn't that spicy. I loved this.

pork

Many Chinese restaurants offered German style pork knuckle (RM 35), but having a good one will be tough. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender. I loved this as well.

It was a heavy lunch. The food in general was good, rich in flavour so the taste was slightly strong. Place is well air conditioned but place is a common stand alone (house type) restaurant, nothing fancy. The price was reasonable to me and I thought this was a good find!

Recommendable!

Good Chinese Food @ Restoran Robson Heights, KL

*Non-Halal*

Some might know this place, some might not. For those who knew about Restoran Robson Heights, they would probably dine there for years.

Its located at Jalan Permai, next to Federal Highway. Exit Federal Highway to Taman Seputeh, there will be a T junction. Turn left and you will notice Restoran Robson Heights on your right.

robson

Since Rachel grew up in this area, my in-laws had been dining here for years. Even before they renovated the place to air conditioned.

Yet, this was the very first time my family dine there.

pork intestines

My mum loves to order pork intestines even though its very high in cholestrol. Yet, there was no regrets as the pork intestines were good.

4 vege

We ordered four heavenly kings and it was good. It wasn't sloppy or too overcooked. Just nice.

taufu

The fried beancurd with minced meat was next. The beancurd was smooth and tasty and covered with the strong flavoured minced meat. Good!

salted egg

The salted egg prawns then came. My first experience of salted egg prawns dated a few years ago. Here, the prawns were coated nicely with the salted egg mix and it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns used were fresh even though this was a fried dish. Addictive!

fish

The most expensive dish of the night, the steamed Sultan fish with soy sauce. Fish were cooked in the right time. Some might overcooked it and some might undercooked it. Not to mention, the meat was fresh which is very important to steamed fish dish. Pricey but worth it.

pork ribs

Lastly, we had their infamous pork ribs. Ribs were coated with rich and thick sauce while the meat was tender and tasty.

The dinner was a good affair. Service was good and the food was very good. The price of the fish escalated the bill, if not it would quite reasonable pricing for the dinner. The whole bill total around RM 200++.

Salted Egg Mantis Prawn @ Hailam Village Seafood, Sitiawan (April '09)

I'm going to be very busy in the upcoming this few weeks with work. I try to blog regularly like usual.

This year alone, I went to Sitiawan 3 times for work. I' went to a few restaurants there which I blogged about it few months back. Yet, I missed a few which includes this lovely lunch at Hailam Village Seafood.

hailam

The location of this restaurant is on the junction of Sitiawan and Lumut Port, map is below.

calamri

We ordered the fried calamari. Crispy and not too soft. Fried foods hardly goes wrong right? This was decent.

mix vege

The mixed vegetables was next. Nothing amazing about it, this was average.

beancurd

Special cooked beancurd came with a generous amount of sauce. Personally, I kinda like this one.

promphet

It has been a while since I had a steamed promphet. The well steamed fish and topped with fried garlic and sliced ginger goes very well with sauce. This was good. That's why the dish came with 2 fish.

venison

There were Venison! Well, we ordered the black pepper venison. This was gooood! Meat was tender and the black pepper sauce blended well with the meat.

mantis

Lastly, we had the salted egg mantis prawn. Deep fried and coated with salted egg, this was good (without thinking the calories of it). Crispy on the outside, the meat was still tender.

To have a heavy lunch like this will result a lazy afternoon. The entire day after the meal became a lazy affair.

I would say they served decent food in general. The restaurant was packed during lunch time and it was an evidence for their popularity in the area. The bill was quickly paid off by my clients. I was told the price was very reasonable.

Fresh Steamed Crabs @ Super Crab Aroma Seafood Restaurant

This is my second visit to this restaurant. I didn't blog about my first visit as I wasn't happy with it. It wasn't so much about the food quality, more to the $$$.

Anyways, it was a gathering and my friend suggested this place, Super Crab Aroma Seafood restaurant for dinner. The place is well air conditioned and parking was not an issue.

stir fried vege

Stir Fried Mix Vege (RM 15) was came first. The mixture of lady's finger, "petai" and brinjal was decent.

roastchic

We ordered half bird of roast spring chicken for RM 19. It was decent but portion was too small. Personally, I felt the chicken was too pricey and I was shocked to see the bill.

crab

The fresh steamed crabs with eggs was the star of the night. The 1.5kg of crabs cost us RM 95.40. The crabs were amazingly fresh. To steam it with egg was an excellent choice. The crabs were amazing, but also amazingly pricey.

The crabs were excellent, other than that, the rest was just decent. Service was good but the foods were pricey.

Crabs were recommended but do watch out the price tags.

Seafood @ Restoran Jetty, Kuala Selangor

Ever wonder where to eat in Kuala Selangor? We all heard of its cheap and good seafood but which the restaurant to go?

For this, I called Ken Chan again (he's gonna blacklist me soon) but he was busy. Then, I called another video producer who she recommended me the Restoran Jetty. Finding the restaurant could be a bit tricky but I do attached a map below. Please check it out.

j1

After 2 hours of driving from Cheras, we finally found the place. The area had 2 rows of shops. The restaurants were located at riverbanks facing a row of shops. Parking was not an issue there, as there were quite a number of parking lots.

Most of the restaurants were half occupied. Even though it was a Friday night, crowds were not that much. Maybe Kuala Selangor is just too far??

We went in and ordered our foods quickly. Most of the dishes were recommended by them. I put my trust and faith in them.

j2

La la is one of my favourite food. Mee hoon la la was my first time. The mee hoon was slightly salty and the la la were a bit small. Portion was quite reasonable. The mee hoon la la was RM 10. Pretty reasonable to me.

j3

Fried oyster omelette is one of my favourite foods as well. Yes, if you might wonder, I do have quite a number of favourite foods. The fried oyster omelette was quite unique. It was deep fried to a pancake style. Slightly dry, definitely different than the others. Fried Oyster Omelette was RM 10.

j4

Steph and Rachel was saying the belacan potato leaves was not bad and it only cost RM 6.

j5

Everyone loved the special steam fish. Recommended by them, priced at RM 32.

j6

The best dish of the night, the butter crabs. The curry butter sauce was addictive. It goes very well with the fried bun as well. Of course the crabs were good. The crabs were very fresh and we took our time slowly enjoying this. We ordered 3 pieces of crabs (medium size and above) and it only costs us RM 30. Very reasonable!

jettygroup

Khai, Steph, Rachel and me...

bill

Guess what. The whole bill came to only RM 95.50! Trust me, we couldn't even finished the foods on the table.

In general, the food was fairly good and price was very reasonable. Service was good. Recommendable! Go for the butter crabs!

Grilled Seafood @ Dewata Cafe, Jimbaran, BALI (March '09)

Jimbaran is a must place to go in Bali. Ask anyone that have been to Bali. Let me say it again Jimbaran is a must place to go in Bali.

Jimbaran lies on the 'neck' of the southern peninsula in Bali and is widely known for the fresh seafood kiosks that are scattered along the beach. Diners select the live seafood that they wish to eat, and it is immediately prepared, generally grilled over a fire of coconut husks rather than charcoal.- Wikipedia

Going to Jimbaran for sunset beach side dinner was our plan. It has one of the most romantic sunset view in Bali. Just imagine, me and Rachel sitting on the beach side, listening to live band overlooking the sunset and drinking the coconuts and having the amazing seafood. It's a moment in a lifetime.

BUT it DIDN'T happen!

Due to unforeseen planning error, we missed the sunset. We spent too much time at Ubud area so we didn't make it in time. Sigh.

We reached Jimbaran late. Yet, we still excited about the amazing seafood restaurants there. Our guide brought us to Dewata Cafe. It was one of the restaurants that streched along the beach.

Upon reaching, I wasted no time to look at their menu and their pricing. From there, I started something that I often do best, negotiating.

Tips here. I spoke with them in Malay language. Once they knew we are Malaysians, more discounts. They were reluctant at first to give me more discounts. I just told them that I was told they were the best restaurant in Jimbaran and they were "specifically" recommended by my friends. After listening to that. they straight away gave me more than 20% discount on foods. It was a white lie, but it worked! I left there with an evil smirking and my friends knew I had a great deal.

dew-fresh

Tiger (the guy in pink) then started to pick the foods for our dinner while the rest chilled at the beach side listening to live bands.

dew-grill

Looked at the charcoal! Burning hot!!

dew-squid

The grilled squid shrunk! LOL! Yet, it was good.

dew-prawn

I loved the grilled prawns. It was fantastic, grilled to perfection. The meat was fresh and tender. Must order the prawns if you are here. Fantastic!

dew-fish

The grilled fish was good as well.

dew-clamp

Well, lastly we had the grilled clamps.

dew-group

The group shot with the live band behind.

In general, the food was pretty good. I loved their grilled seafood. The seafood were pretty fresh and the service was good as well. Price for the whole dinner was around 650,000 RP. It was very reasonable. Yet, please do negotiate the price before you order. Sitting at the beach side was very relaxing and too bad we missed the ultimate sunset.

I would come back again for the food and the sunset.
